Myles Harrison P1 - B
There are many different
television channels what are owned by BBC, all of which appeal to different
people and genres. A few examples are BBC 1, BBC 2, BBC 3, BBC 4, BBC World
News, BBC Parliament, CBBC, Cbeebies, BBC IPlayer, BBC England, BBC Scotland, BBC
Wales, BBC Northern Ireland, and BBC America. Some of these channels are
regional and restricted to certain countries but some are nationwide and can be
viewed anywhere. To access these channels you need a Television licence which
is payed for yearly to access these channels.
BBC News
BBC news is a product of the BBC and is
its own channel. The whole focus of this channel is to inform the viewer and
let them know about the news in the world and in all of the UK; as it is not
regional news it is national and worldwide news whereas the news on BBC 1 is
regional and only focuses on the regional news where the viewer is situated. BBC
news only focus is news and will not feature any programs unless it is a one
hour special episode dedicated to a certain topic which is quite like a
documentary. However most documentaries are on BBC 2.The main news readers and
reporters for BBC news are Geeta Guru-Murthy, Joanna Gosling, and David Eades.
This news is broadcast to only the UK and not to the other collaborations such
as BBC Wales Scotland or England instead it is all one so anybody from them
countries can view the same channel from their televisions and online as it is
not regional based it is for the whole sovereign nation of Britain.
BBC 1
BBC
was the first television channel introduced in the UK and has remained one of
the most popular channels in the UK to date. The channel has many different
programmes which are all part of different genres such as action, drama,
documentary, entertainment, reality etc. It features many returning television
programs and series such as popular soap shows like EastEnders, The Voice and
Doctor Who. The programs appeal to many different people and programs are
played at certain time so that it can gain a bigger audience for example a game
show I’ll be featured during prime time as it will attract more people than if
an unknown drama was playing.

BBC 3
BBC 3 is more dedicated to the younger
generation as it features many comedies and reality shows which are deemed more
appealing to a younger audience e.g. teenagers and young adults. Programs are usually American reality or
comedy programs which are repeated but the ones produced by BBC 3 are British
comedies and reality programs Due to it being aimed at a younger generation it
has been lifted off from television screens completely and can only be viewed
online through the BBC iPlayer app which is due to the BBC seeing that many
young people always are using technology rather than the television so they
decided to make it more appealing by making it available on smart phones and
desktops.

BBC Sport
This channel is solely dedicated to sports
which are popular in Britain such as football rugby tennis cricket and winter
sports. This channel provides news about the sports and highlights of previous
matches and events. The channel also is a hosting channel of the Olympic Games
the world cup and the winter Olympics. Its audience is for people who are
interested in sports.
EastEnders
The EastEnders set has remained in Elstree Studios
in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire. For over 30 years even though the
story in EastEnders is
set in the fictional London Borough of Walford. Due to it being a studio it
means that it is not open to the public while filming unlike other types of
shows where they film out on closed roads and bridges etc. It is all done
inside a studio instead to save time and to set scenes how they want. Weather
can be artificially created for scenes outside so that it can fit the mood of
the scene instead of having to wait for real time weather to actually
occur. It’s also better for audio as it allows all audio to be dubbed and
prevents any unwanted background noise being in the scene. Instead of moving
locations for certain scenes in 2012 the studio was expanded by 20% and
modernised much more which allows more scenes to be done inside the studio and
for the set to be much larger. The set also has an exterior part so that
outside scenes can be filmed all at the same location. The Albert Square which
is the most well-known feature of the EastEnders set is all built up outside of
the indoor set so that all the outdoor scenes are filmed here. The set
originally was only 2 sided but eventually through more development 4 sides to
the square were made which allowed more scenes to be created which was finally
completed in 1993.
Top Gear
Top Gear is located at Dunsfold Aerodrome which is an airport and business park in Waverley,
Surrey England. The studio of recording is an
aircraft hangar which an audience sits around while the 3 presenters are in the
middle; this is where they interview people and introduce previously recorded clips.
In each episode there are parts of the episode of which they record in various
parts of the world which means each episode can vary of filming location but
all the live presenting etc. in front of an audience is always in Surrey. The
studio was going to be moved to Enstone, Oxfordshire in early 2006 but it was rejected which meant it remained at its original
studio location at Dunsfold. In specials of the show it is all done in the
location specified in the episode for example in 2007 there was a special
episode filmed all in the north magnetic pole which shows the variation of
locations they use in each episode.
Gavin and Stacey
There are many scene locations to each Gavin and
Stacey episode which means there are many locations for filming. Many episodes
locations such as Stacey’s house is located in Barry. Most locations of the set
are all on Barry island as it is much cheaper to film there than in a studio as
houses streets and beaches are much easier to rent out than creating an entire
set in a studio due to many scenes being different each episode and alternating
which means if it is all in Barry it can be done cheaper and more quickly as
its popularity is much less than of London so its filming costs will be cheaper
as the island does not have many filming taking place there.
