The BBC's content is no longer just
restricted to real time television whether it be live TV, repeats or a weekly
series. The BBC now offer an app called BBC Iplayer which is available on a
wide range of devices such as Sony ps4 Xbox one pc and Mac smartphones tablets
and through the use of the Internet on any of these devices. The BBC have
created this app so that its audience can drastically increase as this app
appeals to many ordinary people for example commuters, families and teenagers.
The app can be viewed at anywhere at any time as long as there is an active
internet connection which allows people who lead busy lives to still enjoy the
television broadcasts as they can now watch them when they are travelling to
work or in their leisure time rather than waiting for a programme to come on on
the television they can just begun playing it at the touch of a screen.
Families with small children would also
benefit as the parents could download the Iplayer app and broadcast cbbc or cebeebies
for their children to watch on a smart phone or iPad so that the parents are
ably or watch what they want on the television.Teenagers benefit from this as
they can watch the television programme they want to watch rather than be
sitting downstairs with their parents watching the television they can stream
the live television broadcast through their smart phones. For example BBC 1
could be streamed real time on a smart phone but instead of recording a show it
can just be re watched instantly once it has been shown on the television.
Iplayer allows many people who do not pay for subscription services such as
Netflix or now TV to rematch programmes for free without having to pay for it
as all past and current broadcasts a particular channel has broadcast can be
rewatched at anytime. Iplayer in conclusion is beneficial to all types of
people regardless of age gender or class as it can be used across as wide range
of devices no matter the location or time of day.
The BBC also use the popular video sharing
website YouTube to post small clips and full broadcasts of certain TV shows.
These small snippets of episodes are used to draw in an audience for a TV show
which could be existing or over. It is free for the BBC to share videos on YouTube
and to post content so it is a cost efficient way of delivering content to the
audience. YouTube can be used on the exact same devices Iplayer is viewed on so
it allows the viewers to easily switch between the two if needed. YouTube is
used by young, middle aged and elderly people which allows the YouTube channel
to post updates or news on new or returning TV programs which allows those
YouTube viewers to go on to viewing new broadcasts.
